Dear friend of Geneseo Community Players,

Geneseo Community Players is pleased to bring the excitement of a summer musical back to the Alice Austin Theater stage on SUNY Geneseo's campus with the July 19, 20, and 21 performances of the Tony award-winning “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.” Based upon Charles Dickens' last unfinished novel, the story deals with John Jasper, a choirmaster who is madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper’s nephew, young Edwin Drood. Has Drood been mysteriously murdered? But by whom? His leering romantic rival? Mysterious twins newly arrived from a distant land? The villainous vicar? The stonemason? Someone else more dastardly and nefarious?  Unfortunately, Dickens passes away before revealing the culprit, so to solve the mystery, the culprit must be chosen by the audience vote, revealing a different ending each night.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood, with book, music, lyrics, and orchestration by Rupert Holmes, won five Tony Awards in 1986. This charming and inventive show-within-a-show is a rip-roaring whodunit and rollicking evening of jolly good musical fun!
